GIRL GUIDES’ CONCERT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Aug. 15. Last Thursday evening the Town Hall was practically filled for tho concert held under the auspices of tho Foxton Girl Guidao. Tho programme consisted of items by tho Guides and a party of talented artists from Palmerston North. Mr. 11. Marchant, ventiloquist, kept the audienco in roars of laughter. Mr H. Woodhouso (baritone) very effectively rendered “Hybis the Cretan,” with tho “Floral Dance” as an encore. Miss Y. Hancock held tho audienco entranced with “Tho Fallen Hero,” after which she had to give “I want to go to Daddy,” as an encoro and was brought back a third time to give “Spotty.” Mr R. Farmer contributed a humorous item entitled “Mrs Kelly,” followed by' an encoro entitled “Man.” Messrs S. Kingston and H. Woodhouso wore vociferously encored for their duet, “Watchman, What of tho Night.” ' Mrs Kendall sang “Oh, Joy Divine,” the encore being “To a Manature.” Mr Kingston also rendered “Nirvand” and “Audacity,” while Mr H. Colo was enthusiastically encored for his comic song, “Baked Sheep’s Heart.” At tho conclusion of tho concert tho Mayor (Mr Perroau) thanked the Palmerston North artists for their assistance and complimented them on their items. DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. Tho usual monthly meeting of tho Foxton District High School was held on Friday last, presided over by the chairman (Mr J. K. Hornblow). A voto of thanks was accorded an anonymous donor for a donor tion of £5 and to Mr Woodham for gift of goal posts. Accounts totalling £sl 4s 5d were passed for payment and it was decided to apply to the board for travelling oxpronses for tho headmaster in connection with visits to tho side school. The headmaster’s report stated, inter alia, that tho primary department showed a slight decrease in the roll number. The roll number for the secondary department was 30, and for the side school 60. During tho month five parents were prosecuted for failing to send their children to school. Miss Allen has been appointed to fill tho vacancy caused at tho side school by the resignation of Miss Young. It was decided to forward Miss Young a lettor of sympathy in her recent illness. Messrs StSvenson, Rangiheuea, and tho headmaster wero appointed a committee to arrange a social function to entertain tho school sports teams and parents. Messrs Huntley, Stevenson, Cowley, Hutchins and the headmaster were appointed a committee to carry out improvements to tho school grounds. Messrs Alsop, Hartley and Sons, L. Andrews and L. Hunt wore accorded a voto of thanks for services rendered at tho side school.

The Presbyterian Women’s Social Guild hold a sccccssful social evening in the schoolroom on Friday evening. While riding a bicycle into town from Frances Street on Thursday evening Miss Mary Craig overbalanced owing to the handle-bars slipping and fell on to tho roadway, receiving injuries to her face and head. She returned homo in a semiconscious condition and was medically attended. Sho was later conveyed to the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment.

Messrs J. K. Hornblow and A. E. Ferreau well represent the local Fire Board at a conforenco of Firo Boards at Wellington next Friday.
