SOCIETY’S DANGER. ALL-ROUND CHANGE NEEDED. LONDON, Dec, 20. “There is no present symptom that Australian life is more fraught with infinite peril for the future than the recent terrible increase in. class bitterness and hatred,” said Dean Crotty, of Newcastle (N.S.W.), preaching at the Manchester Cathedral. Christians, he said,- must seek ways of spanning the cleavages threatening society. They should avoid vulgar display and the flaunting of wealth, which was a social irritant. They must aim at securing a new sense of responsibility in the socially privileged, otherwise their day of leadership would be ended. There must be an all-round change. It was idle to blame the workers for everything, because there was nothing in tho economic conduct of the poor which could not be justified by the moral conduct of the rich. It was the duty of church societies like Toe H. to save the post-war world from possible judgment as well as reproach.
