SISTERS DROWNED.

TRAGEDY AT TAUMARUNUI. TWO GIRLS* PERISH. Per Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, Dec. 30. . A gloom was cast over the town when it was known that two sisters. Mavis and Thyxa Dette, aged 12 and 14 years respectively, were drowned at Victory Bridge, Wanganui River. A large party of children was bathing and all had left the water except Mavis Dette, who was observed to be iff difficulties. Her sister, Thyra, attempted to rescue her, but both went under and were drowned. Thyra’s body was recovered quickly by a young man named William Capper, who was called to the scene, but fife was extinct. Later the body of Mavis was recovered.
