ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
An institution of which the townspeople are justly proud is the Palmerston North Orchestral Society. Founded just 32 years ago, it still continues to flourish. On Monday next, 2nd August, the society will present its first concert of the present season, and the box plan will open at the Opera House on Wednesday next at 10 a.m. The conductor, Mr Maurice Cohen, has taken particular pains with the players under his baton to maintain the high standard of excellence attained by the society of late years. The big number of the concert will be the brilliant pianoforte concerto by Sain-Saens. This ambitious works, we understand, has not previously been presented in the Dominion. The society is fortunate in having as its solo pianist Miss Enid Wilson, whose work in past concerts has been so warmly received. Miss Wilson’s sojourn in Palmerston North has certainly enabled the society to include in its bill-of-fares musical numbers rarely attempted elsewhere. Miss, Arini Ashworth will be the vocalist on this occasion and this charming singer is bound to delight her hearers.
