FEILDING ACCIDENT.
CYCLIST HiYbY LORRY. FATAL INJURIES. A sad fatality occurred on Friday night last at 6.30 p.m. on the Kimbolton road, Feilding, when Cecil Alfred Kreagher, aged 27, a single man, employed by Mr B. N. Sandilands as a farm hand, was accidentally knocked down by a motor lorry while cycling home, and subsequently succumbed from the injuries received. It appears that deceased was cycling , along the Kimbolton road in the direction of the Kiwitea bridge, and the lorry, driven by Mr Arthur John McElroy, was proceeding in the rear. When both were opposite, Messrs Hodder and Tolley’s mill, a car approached from the direction of the bridge, dis•playing bright headlights, which totally eclipsed the lamps with which the lorry was equipped. The car flashed past, and the lorry driver, temporarily blinded by the sudden glare, failed to realise that the cyclist was so close until he felt a sharp bump. On investigation Mr McElroy found the young man seriously injured. The police and medical aid were immediately summoned ahd the unfortunate man was subsequently removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. On j arrival at the institution it was found < that Mr Kreagher’s condition was beyond medical attention. The injured man conversed with his parents and , appeared comfortable, but succumbed to his injuries at 2 o’clock on Saturday morning. Deceased was a member of a wellknown and highly respected family of the Feilding district. An inquest will be held.
