ALLEGED BREACHES AT WAIHI

WAIHI, April 1. Tho police yesterday rounded up a number of alleged sly grog sellers. That tho brewing of borne made beer has been extensively carried on m Waibi for years past is common knowledge, anti it is equally well known mat much of it has been and still is being sold. Tiie police, however, have found it a clilhcuit matter to bring the offenders to boon, and on more than one occasion their elforts have failed. lesterday the premises of seven residents suspected of selling home brewed beer were raided and tho haul totalled 700 bottles and hundreds of gallons in the process of making The beer is lacetiously termed “washhouse beer 1 because of tbo lact that it is generally made in the housewives’ copper. 1 Tho boLtied liquor was taken to tho police station. The parties concerned will be called upon to answer charges of alleged breaches of the licensing law.
