(From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the sports committee took place on Friday when Mr A. A. Hawker presided over a good attendance. It was decided to hold the local sports and picnic on Wednesday, February 24th, and the programme committee submitted a most attractive programme, including running, cycling and novelty events for the children; also a number of horse jumping events. Special, efforts will bo made for tho children. Tho school competitions for tho |Faulkner Cup will also take place. A special committeo was appointed to carry out tho arrangements for the dance in tho evening. . Tho interest already being taken in tho gathering points to tho fact that tho 15th annual sports should bo in every way a success. On Sunday evening the second son of Mr Jepson had his arm broken through falling off a milk stand. Tho little sufferer is progressing favourably.’ On '.Monday evening tho monthly meeting of the school committee took place. Present: Messrs J. Scheldt, A. E. Hyde, W. F. Maxwell, R. C. Powell, W. B. Duthio and T. Pascoe (secretary). Owing to the absence of tho chairman (Mr J. H. Dixon), Mr W. B. Duthio presided. Correspondence was read, from Wanganui Education Board forwarding cheque for £6l, subsidy on ground improvements; also from Mr Conway, contractor for tho ground improvements. The committee decided to make a payment of £IOO .for work done. Tho secretary read the balance-sheet of tho school picnic showing a credit of 6s 7d.' Tho arrangements for tho school excursion to Plimmorton on February 12 was held over until next meeting. Other general business was dealt with and accounts totalling £lO7 15s 6d were passed for payment. Tho friends of Mr and .Mrs A. E. Hyde regretted to hear of their roccint bereavement, this one adding to the many they have sustained during tho past two years. Mr J. O. Webber, headmaster of tho local school, came out ,f tho hospital a few days ago and Imt for Dunedin to recuperate his health and visit friends in that part of iho Dominion. He expects to return homo at tho end of tho month.
