FURTHER BUSINESS OF COUNCIL The meeting of tho Oroua County Council was concluded yesterday afternoon when general business and consideration of reports occupied tho attention of councillors. A letter was received from the Public Trustee, stating the terms on which ho was prepared to consider the application for tho highways loan of £IO,OOO. —At 6 per cent with 2 per cent sinking fund, the term of the loan being 20 yoars. On tho recommendationof the finance committee it was decided to raise the sum named on the terms mentioned, provided that it could bo lifted over a period of five years. The sum of £25 was voted to tho Ashhurst public cemetery. Cr. Greenhow suggested that tho council should meet tho Kairanga County Council in sharing tho cost of metalling four chains of the road in front of the Bunnythorpe cemetery to the full width. It was decided to advise tho Ivairanga County Council that tho Oroua County Council viewed the proposal to share the work symyathctically but desired to know tho cost.

It was decided to purchase a metal crusher under the hire purchase system of the Main Highways Board. Acaounta totalling £3514 4s lOd were passed for payment. TREASURER'S REPORT.

The treasurer’s report was as follows: Total general rates outstanding at March 31, 1925, £1042 7s lOd; arrears collected to dato, £285 7s lOd; general rates levied April 1, 1925, £10,099 7s; collected, £8773 18s 2d. Riding accounts: Mangaone (cr), £4OO 10s 2d; llangitawa (dr), £l2O 14s 4d; Raumanga (dr), £B2 14s 7d; Makino (dr), £72 6s 8d; Taonui (cr), £24 Is 9d; Hiwinui (dr), £392 12s 7d; Otangaki (cr), £456 13s 9d. Bank balance: County fund account (cr), £2367 0s lid. ENGINEER’S REPORT.

Tho engineer reported, inter alia, as follows: Taonui riding: TaonuiBunnythorpe, Bunny thorpe-Ashhurst and Stoney Creek roads liavo been dragged, and the work of widening tho former road has been commenced. Humps of gravel have been carted out at the corner of Aorangi road and Reid’s lino and at Spur road bridge. The material has arrived for the Bunnythorpe footpaths, and a start will shortly be made with this work. Hiwinui riding: The work of widening Palmerston North-Aslvhurst road has been completed. Tho drag has been at work on this road on several occasions. Gravel repairs have been effected to Raukawa road, about 272 yards having been placed thereon. Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst road has been trimmed with the grader. Otangaki riding: Tho re-forming and gravelling of tho upper portion of Pohangina road is proceeding satisfactorily, although tho recent rain has made the pit gravel difficult to treat with the crusher. The section of this road from Ulysses road to Spur road has been completed, and a further section has now been scarified and reformed, and is now being re-metalled. I have now received authority from the Highways Board to proceed with the remainder of this road. Palmerston North-Ashlvurst road has been trimmed with tho grader on several occasions. A start has been made on the work of asphalting tho remainder of tho Ashhurst footpaths. - &&
