THE HOLIDAYS.
SUMMER WEATHER PREVAILS. ABSENCE OF ACCIDENTS. The 1925 midsummer holiday period is still characterised by glorious weather. There has been a pleasing absence of accidents, although motor traffic in many directions lias been very heavy. The seaside resorts have been well patronised, tho past few days having been the most suited for coastal trips of any during tho season. The representative cricket matches and the Manawatu Racing Club’s summer meeting at Awapuni were the chief sports attractions on Boxing Day, although bowlers and tennis players indulged in their respective summer pastimes.. Local greens, however, are in most cases rather parched as tho result of the dry spell and continuous winds.
To-day was only a semi-holiday, drapers, clothiers, and some other shops being open as usual after the Christmas vacation, but tho town from shortly after 10 a.m. presented a quiet appearance. The racing carnival attracted large numbers of those who are still at leisure and many country residents continue to spend their holidays in Palmerston North.
