SPOTS ON THE SUN.
VISIBLE THROUGH SMOKED GLASS,
Mr G. V. Hudson, of Karori, reports that great solar activity prevails at the present time. Two large sunspot groups, fully 90,000 miles long, are now visible, one near the eastern edge of the sun and the other south-west from the centre. Both can be seen easily with the naked eye through smoked glass. Three much smaller groups are also visible in tho western hemisphere of the sun. The group near the eastern limb promises to be one of exceptional magnitude, and will be favourably placed for observation during the next few days.
