Mr tind Mrs C. H. James, accompanied by their son and daughter, left to-day on a visit to Auckland.
The death is announced from London, of Sir George Colthurst, aged 75, the owner of Blarney Castle, near Cork, Ireland.
Mr A. Shelton, superintendent of mails at the Wellington Chief Post Office, has been promoted to be relieving officer for the General Post Office.
Lieutenant-Colonel S. E. Thomas, an ex-imperial Army officer, who intends settling permanently in the Dominion, arrived from England by the Ruapehu yesterday. He was accompanied by members of his family.
A Sydney message states that MajorGeneral Sir Ivor Phillips has arrivvd there en route to New Zealand. Me was formerly senior Liberal member of the House of Commons for Southampton.
Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., passed through Palmerston North during the week-end en route for Hastings to attend the funeral of the late Mr F. Mason, who was practically the founder of the Church of Christ at Petone.
In the New Zealand University examination for the banking diploma, Mr Donald lan Robertson, son of Mr J. Robertson, of Church street, Palmerston North, passed in banking I, currency and banking, and economic geography.
‘Mr T. W. Attwood, of tho New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, who has been in England for some months past, attending to matters of marketing, returned by the Ruapehu yesterday. He disposed of a large quantity of New Zealand fruit at the Wembley Exhibition.
