BUNNYTHORPE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The anniversary celebrations in connection with the Bunnythorpo Methodist Church were brought to a conclusion last night, when a tea and public meeting was held. A large number of members and friends s'at down to tea, the Sunday school hall being taxed to its utmost to accommodate two sittings, while at the conclusion the company repaired to the church, where the public meeting was held. Rev. H. T. Pent presided, and in his address took as his subject “The Function of the Church.” This, said the speaker, was to bear witness to her Lord; to reveal the Christ as tho One able to save men from the power of evil, and to upbuild believers in their most holy faith. The Church stood for all that was noblest and best in life; sho offered a life of increasing splendour. A man’s happiness was in direct ratio to the breadth of his horizon. 'The annual report and balance-sheet wore presented by Mr J. H. Fowler. The report disclosed that, under the guidanco of their minister the spiritual tone of tho Church had been very high, it being reflected in the large number of members who attended the Communion services. Through the cooperation of the Church members and friends outsido the denomination a big forward move had been carried through successfully. Tho church buildings had been onlai’ged and the
grounds placed in thorough order. The ladies’ guild had raised a large sum of money for trust purposes, and the host thanks of the whole Church were duo to them for their generosity. The balance-sheet revealed that the sum of £2lB 8s lOd had been raised during the year for trust purposes —for the upkeep and enlargement of the buildings, etc. —and the year closed with a credit balance of £4 2s 4d. Appreciation was expressed for the services rendered by the organist (Mrs J. H. Dixon), choirmaster (Mr W. Egglcton), the ladies’ guild and the various organisations in connection with the Church. During the evening an enjoyable musical programme was rendered as follows: Accompanistc, Miss Inez Flatt; soloists, Mrs J. Duthie, Misses Nellie Killick; Nina Scaddon and Doris Morgan; duet, Misses Morgan ; recitation, Miss Dorothy Ferguson.
