SPRING SHOW ENTRIES.

ALL CLASSES OF STOCK REPRESENTED. EFFECT OF ROYAL SHOW. Following are the total entries received by the secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Association for the forthcoming Spring Show:—Cattle Horses >.< ■••• 202 Sheep w 365 Pigs w ... Fleece wool ... .... ... t>3 Schools ... 633 Needlework and cookery 669 Photography HO Dogs ... 571 Competitions ... ... ... 203 Total ... ... 3466 Though tho entries aro smaller in the aggregate owing to the Royal Show nearly all classes of stock are represented, one notahlo exception being the leading British beef breed of Shorthorns. The firat three shows of the season in thi* island, namely, Hawke's Bay, Carterton and Manor watu, have all been adversely affected in so far as entries are concerned and the opinion of many breeders and exhibitors now is that the. Royal Show should bo the opening show of the season. Those breeders whose ambition leads them to test their stock at the Royal Show are averse to bringing the animals out prior to that event,, as they claim, and rightly so, that the bloom is taken from them, and what chances they may have are very much lessened thereby. Though the numbers of stock on exhibition will be smaller, the quality will be well up to the usual standard. The ring competitions will be as attractive as they have been in the past, with quite a number of horses competing that have not previously appeared :>n the Palmerston North showground. The Manawatu Kennel Club will have between 170 and 180 dogs, which, will make a creditable display in No. 5 hall. Preparations aro well forward in all sections as well as on .the ground and all that is needed is lino weather and a big attendance, it must be remembered that the show days are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 4th,-sth and 6th November.
