Air E. Page, S.M., of Wellington, who has hccn oil an extended holiday to England, is expected to arrive back hero early in November. Air A. Varney, who for the last 13 years has been associated with the V.M.C.A. in New Zealand, has resigned from the nationaj secretaryship of that movement.
Rev. A. F. Hall, M.A., vicar of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Opotiki, Hay of Plenty, has accepted the living at Tauranga. His successor at Opotiki will bo Rev. J. E. Draper, of Hastings,
His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Charles Fergusson, who has boon attending the Hastings Show, returned to Wellington on Saturday evening, his special train passing through Palmerston North at 8.30 o’clock.
A well-known resident of Marton, in the person of Air Frederick Overton, passed away in Palmerston North yesterday following a serious illness. The deceased gentleman, who had attained the age of 74 years, was a native of Australia, but had lived the greater part of his life in Canterbury where ho followed farming pursuits. As a young man he assisted his father who was, at one time, the owner of the well-known Aleadowbank estate, but later he personally acquired the Lakeside property, at Ellesmere. About 20 years ago Mr Overton came to the North Island where he managed farm properties at Taihape and Halcombe, eventually taking up his residence in Marton. Some ten days ago ho came to Palmerston North for medical attention, but his illness proved fatal. There are left to mourn their loss a widow, one son and six daughters, the members of the family being: Mr Arnold Overton, of Taihape: Mesdamos E. C. (Dr.) Barnett, of Palmerston North; Stevenson, Kaikohe; Goldsbury, Marton; Sidney Smith, Eketahuna; Blakeley, Christchurch, and Miss Overton, Alarton.
