CYCLE ROAD RACE
ROUND MOUNT EGMONT. AVIN FOR S. McCANN. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 25. A New Plymouth boy, S. McCann, riding on the thirty minutes’ mark, won yesterday’s “round Mount Egmont” cycle race by a comfortable margin. Fifty-six riders faced tho starter at New Plymouth, the limit men, who were given forty minutes’ start, leaving at ten o’clock:' The roads, which for the greater part of the 100 miles’ course are tar-sealed, were in good order. The weather also was favourable, although during the first 40 miles along the coast road to Opunake a head wind was faced. Great interest was displayed by the public, who lined the roads and streets in all the villages and towns. The scratch men gained very little on the leaders to Opunake. Passing Kaponga Brewster (New Plymouth) was.in the lead, a position he held all the way to Inglewood, which is only 11 miles from home. Two minutes behind him came McCann, Yard ley, Mortlake and Belk, who in the last stretch overhauled the leader, finishing in the order named, with Brewster fifth. S. McCann rode a splendid race, reaching the finishing post at New Plymouth racecourse over five minutes ahead of the next man. Results :
