SCHOOL AGRICULTURE.

CHIEF INSTRUCTOR’S REPORT. The chief instructor in agriculture presented the following report at this month’s meeting of tho Wanganui Board of Education: “Indoor work: This is progressing quito satisfactorily and, save in some few instances, the note books show steady improvement.

“Outdoor work: Very little has been done in the garden plots up to date on account of the exceptionally wet season, but this month should see better conditions for the work, and sowing will occupy most of the time during the coming few weeks. “Boys’ and girls’ clubs: Tho following schools have signified their intention of entering for the competition, and though in tho Wanganui area full entries are not yet to hand, it is expected that the schools mentioned here will'all be taking part: Waituna, Clydesdale, Fitzherbert East, Kimbolton, " Rangiwahia, Kakariki, Mount Biggs, Cheltenham, Aratika, Moutoa, Waitohi, Kairanga, Waiata, Makino, Ashlmrst, Glen Oroua, Beaconsfieki, Awahuri, Colyton, Mount Richard's Road. Pohangina, Newbury, Awahou North, Kiwitea, Oroua Downs, Halcombe, Te Araltura, Taonui, Apiti, Valley Road, Carnarvon, Taikorea, Kelvin Grove, Rongotea, Manutahi, Kakaramea, Alton, Hurlcyville, Whenakura, Waitotara, Waverley, Maxwcll, Westmere, Brunswick, Upokongaro. Bulls, Turakina, Wangachu, Fordell, Kaitoke, Okoia, Nukumaru. From these it is expected there will be over 300 competitors, a decided advance on the numbers of previous years. Full detailed entries will be furnished when these are complete to hand.

“Teachers’ Saturday classes: These have now been completed for the year, a total of 42 hours’ instruction in general science and agriculture having been given. The work done by the trainees has been on the whole very good. The thanks of the board are duo to Mr Waßon for tho excellent manner in which he conducted his science class in Wanganui, and to the technical authorities, who have placed their science equipment at our disposal.

“General: Tree seeds, pines and eucalypts are to hand from the Forestry Department, and will be distributed to schools as they are required.”
