ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH.
NEW BUILDING NEARING COMPLETION. The new Roman Catholic Church in Broad street is now Hearing completion from a constructional point of view, the major part of the work remaining to bo done consisting of the interior furnishings ami flooring. The stately edifice, which is one of the principal architectural features of Palmerston North, will be opened probably in March. Already the lofty spire, surrnountgd by a cross, nas become, a landmark, and With the fitting recently of leudlight windows alonß the side, and the completion of the finer touches of masonry at salient points about the exterior, the beauty of the architectural design of the building has become apparent. Inside, the buildors are at work laying down flooring and generally advancing the plans for tho interior arrangements. The stained wooden panelling under tho high roof is in position and the tall concrete columns within present an appearance of majesty and solidity in keeping with what was stated, at the time of tho laying of the foundation stone, to be the finest building of ita kind eutside the four principal cities of the Dominion. On a niche high up on the tower will be placed a marble statue of St. Patrick, over six feet high. The piece of sculpture should arrive in Palmerston North about March—it is hoped in time for the opening ceremony.
