THE A.M.P. SOCIETY.
INTERESTING STATISTICS. The Australian Mutual Provident Society has recently completed the seventy-fifth year of its existense and a study of the statistics published by the directors throw an interesting light on the magnitude of the operations of the society. Thus we find that during the seventy-five years of its - existence the Ordinary Department has collected £86.223,473 in premiums and £45,445,587 in interest, and has paid out £69,250.210 to members or their representatives. The Industrial Department during its nineteen years of existence has collected £5,977,525 in premiums and £998.946 in interest and has paid £55,348 to members or their representatives. Perhaps even a better idea of the magnitude of the business may be gained frbm thfc following tabic: During the time its doors were .open for business in 1923 tho society . issued an Ordinary Department policy about every four minutes; issued an Industrial Department policy every two minutes; collected about £4B per minute in premiums; collected about £23 per minute in interest; paid members or . their representatives about £35 per minute; added about £3O per minute to its funds and reserves. Tho real interest of the community in these figures lies not in the magnitude of the sums they represent, but in the fact that the proceeds from these immense transactions belong directly to the large proportion of our public who are members of the society. There are no shareholders to absorb a share of the profits, the whole of which are divided among the policy-holders in the shape of yearly bonuses.
