FLOWER SHOW
SPLENDID AUTUMN DISPLAY. CHRYSANTHEMUMS CHIEF FEATURE. The third autumn show of the Palmerston North Horticultural Society was opened in the Zealandia Hall this afternoon, when a large number of horticulture enthusiasts congregated to view the splendid display. Although it is a little late in the season, the chrysanthemums, which are the premier attraction, are excellent, both in point of number and quality, and competition for the awards was keen. Amateur, open and novice classes have all attracted very creditable entries, while the fruit and vegetable divisions are characterised by some very fine produce, the Manawatu Fruitgrowers' Association having staged splendid exhibits of fruit. The domestic divison is not so strong numerically as it might have been, but the quality of the exhibits is of a high standard. Taken on the whole the exhibition should be most successful. The blending of the flowers with autumn foliage lends to the spacious hall a most pleasing effect. The prizes, especially in the decorative classes, being of an attractive order, have had the desired effect of stimulating competition. The principal officials are: Patron, Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.; president, Mr F. J. Nathan; committee, Mesdames A. Just, C. M. Imrie, R. A. McKenzie.' F. R. Thornley, Strode-Penny, J. B. Wilton, J. Galland, D. J.
