FOXTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Another successful card evening was held last week by the Foxton Card Club when an enjoyable time was spent by a large number,of card enthusiasts. The prizes for the most games of cribbage were won by Messrs Simpson and Jage. SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the local State School Committee was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rangiheua (lion treas.), Cowley, Stevenson, Jno. Ross, F. Rinnner, Perreau and the head teacher (Mr Banks). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Coley aiid Pearson. . Mr H. F. Gabites wrote acknowledging the . committee's congratulations on behalf of the Lytton street school, winners of the recent - seven-a-side tournament, and stating that th team much appreciated the friendly message.—Received. i The Education Board acknowledged the committee's application for grant m aid of fencing and forwarding cheque for hall cost of same.—Received. , . The board also wrote advising that tne conversion of the old residence for cooker} and. woodwork classes was a good sugges- ' tion and stating that the lease oi tne premises used for woodwork would ot expire until May next, when steps wouw be taken to go further into the matter In the meantime, the secretary would accompany the architect on ft visit otm-spection.-The chairman said J»W mittee would be notified of thei visit and would confer with the secretary and architect on the subject. Tho headmaster reported th at the afc tendance for last month was 410 047 out of T roll number of 440; Miss Shand had restated and Mrs Ross had been relieving ana lliss Blandford had taken up her duties that morning several repairs and requirements were set out. Perreau were appointed visitors for the month _ A large number of local people journeyed to Rangiotu on Tuesday night to attend tho ball held there and spent a most enjoyable evening. • . The monthly meeting of the Dorcas Society was held in All Saints' schoolroom on Monday afternoon. Present: Mesdames McDonald, Hynes, Pearson, A. Ross, Barr, Moore, MeMurray, Miss J. Ross, Mrs Ensign Huston, and Captain Deeprose. An apology was received from the Rev. Frank McDonald. Mrs Moore presided. An account for'Bs 9d waa passed for payment. Correspondence was received from the Palmerston North Hospital Board and .'several grateful recipients of clothing etc. Five applications for assistance were jeceived and assistance granted in each case. Donations of clothing etc., were acknowledged from Mesdames T. Robinson, Stuekey, MeMurray, Moore, Wylie, Hynes, Ensign Husten, "A Friend" and "Anor.yThe local fire brigade held their fket practice with the fire engine and full equipment on Tuesday night. The brigade members are taking keen interest in their work now that they have up-to-date equipment. ', - . . Mr Simmons, of Wanganui, is at present relieving stationmaster at Foxton, the local stationmaster being away on His annual leave.
