TOKOMARU.
(From Our Own Correspondent) On Friday last a fancy dress dance was given for the children of the Tokomaru school. From sevon o'clock until nine seme ninety ohildren enjoyed themselves on a good floor to excellent music. Towards the ehd( of the children's dance tho members-; of the orchestra were asked to jiidge the'costumes, the prizes being awarded, aa, follows:—Best funoy' dress, Connie 'Jainiesorf (the octopus), and Ray Todd (puss in boots)); most original costume, Phyllis .Morgan (Eve), ana Mervyn Philips (Adam); most economical costume, Dorothy Webb (kapoc), and Ngaio Pope (the aviator), :■ '■ '■'•■•' • /.. The ■ dance, nvhi?h commenced at 9 o'clock,' was .well < patronised, the floor being crowdod, many comjng' from Linton and Shannon.- ; The- whole of the' tune ilew rapidly, ; there being na time lost be-tween'-dances and when one o'clock arrived very few' had' gone and many wished to tarry longer. - As-but the small sum of 2s 6d admission.was charged it was not intended to make much over working expenses. The takings, however, amounted to £ls 14s, which will leave a surplus of about £3. to be' handed over to the Ickomaru School Committee.
