APPEAL TO CHURCHES.
CHURCH OF CHRIST CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 31.
The Churches of Christ are holding their annual Dominion conference. A large number of delegates are present.
In his presidential address Mr Cairns (Lower flutt), appealed to Churches to rise to their great opportunity. Men were seeking for light and truth, and a plea was being put forward for a return to Christ and. His teaching. Thursday was devoted to women's work, Miss Oldli'eld (Wellington) presiding. Reports showed the women of the Church have been busy amongst the poor and children. The financial sheets showed _ that money had been raised for missionaries in South Africa and for Home work. The president-elect of the wmnen's work is Mrs Theodore Arnold, and secretary, Miss Lydia Neild.
llonie Missions returns show 268 additions to tlie Churches for the year. The president-elect is Mr J. Ingles Wright, of Dunedin. The next conference is to be held at South Dunedin, At the Church of Christ Conference foreign missions were discussed and many additions were reported, also the great need For white workers. It was decided to cable to Mr and Mrs Classen to fake up the work immediately in Buluwnyo. Foreign Missions Committees were elected for Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin with J. I. Wright as general secretary. At the session devoted to Bible school work, Mr 11. Gallau, of Auckland, presided. The new scholar shield was won from Roslyn by the Vivian Street Church of Christ, and the teachers' attendance banner was won by Inyercargill, with an attendance of ninety-nine per cent. Nelson and Invercargill !iud a great number of prize winners. Yesterday a united communion service was held. '
