The recurrence of a crime wave in New York lias resulted in orders that every member of the police force must take patrol. All vacations have been suspended, anil special guards-ordercd to protect the banks anil business bouses. The entire police strength is being held in emergency duty, both day and night. These measures follow an extraordinary number of murders, robberies, hold-ups and assaults.—A. and N.Z. cable. LIQUOR RUNNING. CONSPIRACY EXPOSED. NEW YORE.. March 31. A telegram from Indianapolis says 51 put of 62 residents of Gary wore found guilty of conspiracy to violate the prohibition amendment. * Among those convicted were the city's Mayor, judge, sheriff, and numerous lawyers and police officials— A. and N.Z. cable.
