REBELLION IN INDIA.
SPREAD OF TROUBLE.
Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. Received April 23. 1.15 p.m. LONDON. April 17. Soldiers awaiting embarkation to England,_ including those from Mesopotamia, remain in India in view of the present situation. Advices from Calcutta state that the passive resistance demonstrations by the Marwaris culminated in serious rioting in the Indian quarter. Several Europeans were assaulted and officers were injured. The_ military were called out and fired, causing a dozen casualties, and order was restored.
The mob at Gurgwala, Punjab, attacked a train and wrecked the station Aeroplanes oombed the crowds. The unrest continues at Delhi.
At Lahore the rioters, after killing fiv-' Europeans and looting tho hanks, burnt tho buildings of tho Mission and the church depot at Punjab was also destroyed. Strong military forces,quelled the riots.
