KOSY, "AN AMATEUR ORPHAN.” A vivid story of youth and its perilous pathways is told in “An Amateur Orphan, the Palin* Hold-Rooster (day, non ucmg j icrocnetl at the Rosy. Gladys Leslie is the heroine who make.., (In* experiment, and she is charming and lovable, and capable ot Tendering good work in highly cinotioual ;wenoß. bit" is a “poor little rich girl, "ho. by exercising' great ingenuity, manages to escape) from the tedious life which has bored lier, and becomes the in nude of an orphanage. Here she finds adventures in plenty, but nothing to tho.-e which arrive when flit* is put out to work for a. farimu, ami encounters the black-sheep of the family. Her very innocence puts her m danger, but as is right, love wins in the end. and the story is nicely rounded oil. Hie supporting cast is strong and competent. Bud the setting is beautifully done. The pla.v on the whole is a first-class production, and the story boldly original. “The Iron Claw” this week reaches to No. 12, in an episode entitled “Haunted Canvas.'’ which is quite consistent with the previous chapter. PALACE. "BAWBS O’ BLUE RIDGE.” Tin* is the story of a young girl, who lias been taught. by her betrayed mother that .she must “nevermarry a man. ’ Bawbs is utterly ignorant ot any part of the world but her mountains, and knows nothing of i he, meaning of passion or love. A novelist in search of local colour comes across her, however. and Bawbs begins to gather knowledge. The love, story is very bewitching, pud a.s it develops it. transpires that Bawbs i. s rich, a. fact- which makes' her the object of an old miser’s tenderesl ho]>es. There are some line comedy scenes, when this old fellow with “refuse to fade ' eyes does himself up to look us young as possible. Bawbs is also bothered much by the prophecy of an old owl, to whom mountain girls appeal when they wont an omen as to whom they will marry. If the owl hoots, it means that (lie future husband will be old. 1A) lino character in the play also is Aunt. Sallie, an immense old neg less who looks after Bawbs. A 2-reel Keystone comedy. “Pinched in the Finish,” in which the popular comedian Ford Sterling will appear, will be screened.
