M. Myers (Auckland East) drew attention to the apparent contradiction between a former statement by Mr Massev to thi« effect and a statement by the UnderSecretary for Lands that there was on insufficiency of surveyors. There appeared, he said, to be a misapprehension Here. In. reply, the Prime Minister stated that the information from his Department was that while there had been a "Scarcity of surveyors in the early part of last year there was no scarcity now. but plenty were available for the work in hand. It would be remembered that Inst year WT had upplied for an extra grant of £SOOO for the purpose of procuring more. He had instructed his Department not to, follow a chopse-paring policy, and the result had been satisfactory.
Mr Myers: Will you give us the number of extra men employed since March? Mr Massev: I «ill do it with plasure, but I can't do it at the moment.
