Phillip Jo9pj.il) Newport, William Black and Charles Stephenson «ere charged at tlie Magistrate's Court to-day with theft 'from Dalgety's store, and with receiving stolen gotnls. Newport pleaded guilty to stealing haif a ton of chuff and a sack of cowgrass w?ed. lllack was charged with the theft of a bag of cow grass seed and with receiving name knowing that it was stolen. His defence was that he had ordered a sack of fowl feed, nnd the grass seed had br-en sent in mistake. Stephenson pleaded not guilty to'receiving twelve bugs ot chaff, knowing them to havo l*en stolen. His defence was that ho had bought the chaff from Newport in good faith. The Magistrate accepted the explanation. and discharged Stephenson. Sentences on the other accused wero deferred till to-morrow.
BLENHEIM, Sept. 6. William. Black and Phillip Joseph Newport were sentenced this morning to three month*' imprisonment.
