MR. T. E. TAYLOR'S ESTATE.
. COMPLETE STATEMENT OF THE POSITION A WARM MEETING. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. i Tho special meeting of the T, E, Taylor Memorial Committee, held this afternoon to receive a statement from tho treasurer relative to the exact financial position of Mrs Taylor and the family, led to some heated discussion concerning the parties responsible for tho circulation of the statements described to bo wilfully and maliciously false as to tho valuo of the late Mr Taylor's estate and tho estate of tho widow. Tho Mayor, who presided, ruled that ho would not allow any argument Liquor v. No-lioenso to take place. Mr G. Bowron a member of tho Executive committee, persisted in making statement*' to which tho Mayor objected and finally Mr Dougall left the room, ex* pressing regret that ho had been driven to adopt that course. The meeting then broko up. Bcforo the climax camo, however, a statement detailing the value of Mr and Mrs Taylor's estates was made by Mr Salter, which statement tho Mayor said furnished a comploto answer to tho allegations made to tho effect that Mrs Taylor had been left most comfortably off. Mr Salter stated that that morning Mr Cole, Mr Isitt, Mr McCombs and himself had gone carefully into the figures relative to Mr and Mrs Taylor's estates. They j went to the valuation offico and obtained the Government valuation of the properties they had to deal with. Tho position was as follows:—Tho total value of the properties in which Mrs Tc-vlor had an interest wag £IBB6 13s 4d, that included the houso where the family v/ero living, one-third interest in another properly adjoining., a property in Hazoldean Road, and a property at Akaroa. The total incomo from all sources including the property left by Mr Taylor was £lB5 15s od, which after reducting rates and insurance £33, and £3O for the upkeop of the dwellings left a net income of £122 15s 6d They had already stated after going into the figures roughly that; the value of Mr Taylor's property was £2344. The later figures ascertained carefully, subsequently showed that the total was £234017s 6d. There were two items which wore interest producing, namely, a loan on-mortgage and a house property in Harman street. The other properties wore not interest producing, and tho bulk of tho cash would havo to go to pay debts and to discharge a legacy to Mr Taylor's mothpr, The statement, therefore, made by Mr Bishop at the opening meeting was well within the facts, and tho total income available' was not as much by £SO as was expected would bo the case. The figures ho had presented had boon gono into by the four he had named, the actual figures from the Government valuation Department being taken. Tho Mayor: "I am very pleased to hear that statement, because I think it will bo regarded as a complete answer to any insinuations made on the subject," A DENIAL. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 4. Mr E. Nordon, secretary of the Licensed Victuallers' Association, the gentleman referred to by namo at the mooting as the ono primarily responsible for tho circulation of tho false rumours through New Zealand of Mrs Taylor's means, gives an emphatic denial to tho statements mado. :
