BRICK WALLS COLLAPSE.
A SENSATIONAL ACCIDENT. (PES PbR«» ASBOPTATirW.) DUNEDIN, Sept. 4. A startling accident occurred at the Corporation gas works this afternoon. Four men were working on top of a ten-feet brick wall, which was being erected in connection with extensions to a new retort house. They were engaged in striking the centre of the arch routing two of a series of seven brick ivalls. The operations evidently disturbed the brick-work, for the arch crumbled and the whole wall collapsed. Falling debris struck the adjoining •wall, and in this manner five walls 20ft nigh and 20ft long were demolished one after the other. One of the men foresaw the danger and stepped on to an outeido wall, j which remained standing, but the other three men were precipitated to the ground. One, John Dryden, was evidently struck on the- head with a brick. He was removed' to the hospital. His condition is grave. The other two men escaped with minor injuries.
