■ BISCUIT FACTORY ABLAZE. v (PEB P-BKSB ARRnctATION.I DUNEDIN, June 30. An extensive factory, owned by R. Hudson and Co., biscuit and confectionery manufacturers, ,iii Castle street, had a narrow escapo from destruction by fire this evening. The premises are now 'being installed with a Grinnell sprinkler, but he installation was uot quite complete. Fortunately, however, the manufacturing section, which comprises a large building in the centre of the company's works, and in which the fire originated was equipped with the apparatus, and when the outbreak was discovered, through the operation of the sprinkler, the flames had a strong hold.. The fire.apparently started on the ground floor in or near a lift, and quickly reached the top floor, but the brigade got it under in good time. The origin is a mystery, tlic:.'o having been no fire in the vicinity of the supposed starting place. The damage is estimated at from £IOOO to £I2OO. The section affected was insured for about £6OOO, the main policy being with the Royal Exchange Company. \ A CHRISTCHURCrT OUTBREAK. CHRISTCHURCH, June. 30.
