George William Palmer, of biscuit manufacturing fame, his wife and Mr Alfred Palmer, have given £50,000 each to endow, a • University at Reading, in view of.an application'• for a charter as anindependent;-University.' Mr G, Palmer gave a previous £50,000 in ; 1905. • Mr H. Barber has presented the Army and Navy with two Valkyrie aeroplanes apiece. Penrce, Federal Minister of Defence, asked the Admiralty to place orders for the hull and armour of the Commonwealth cruiser .named Brisbane. ' . Mr.'W. A. Horn, now owner of the alleged Duchess of Gainsborough.picture, has arranged'an exhibition in a West End gallery to enable experts to compare it with Mr Pierpont Morgan's picture, which it is claimed is not genuine.
