WELL-KNOWN TRAVELLER KILLED.

LONDON, May 25. Mr Boyd Alexander, the celebrated explorer, was killed on,,3rd of April at Nyer, eastward of Abessar, in Wadai; the centre of the Senussi activity, and the scene of the murders of several explorers, including Vogel in 1856, and Bcurmann in 1861, and recently the scene of the fanatical attack on the French troops, which were ambuehed and cut to pieces. The French troops "retaliated, chastising the natives on 7th April.

Lieut. Boyd Alexander, F.R.G.S., F.Z.S., was born in 1873, and educated at Radley College. For a time he served with, the Rifle Brigade. In 1897 ho led a scientific expedition to Cape de Verde Islands; in 1898-99," explored the Zambesi and Kafuc rivere; was appointed to the Gold Coast Constabulary, and took part in the relief of Kumasi; led a scientific expedition to Fernando Po, which resulted in the successful ascent of Mount St. Isabel; led the Gosling expedition across Africa from the Niger to the Nile; retired from the army in_l9o7. He has written a good deal with regard to his travels end also for natural history.
