FLOODS IN NELSON.
(Pee Peess Association.) NELSON, March 15. A heavy northerly gale and torrential rain fell at Takaka to-day. The wharf was three inches under water, and the tide was the highest on record. The ketch Venture broke from her moorings and drifted to a mudbank, where she was safely anchored. The Nelson flood has subsided. Considerable damage was done, principally to the Port lioad, at Stoke, and ■ in the northern parts of the district, including a wash-out of three-quarters of a mile along the railway at Stoke. The Rowing Club's boat landing at Lukin's wharf was flooded to a depth of eighteen inches, and there was water in the houses in Trafalgar Street North and Wainui Street. It is still lying in the gardens without an outlet.
