THE TEST MATCH. RESUMED TO-UAY. (Per Press Association.J CIIRISTCHURCII, March 15. The cricket match. Australia v. Now Zealand, was resumed at 11.30 ,in fine weather, with a fresh easterly breeze. The attendance was fair, the wicket dead, and the outfield very slow after the rain. Sims and Midlanc were the batsmen and Whitty and Kelleway the bowlers. Play opened very cautiously, the batsmen taking no risks and finding a difficulty in driving the ball any distance along the dead turf. Five overs produced six runs, and eleven overs six maidens. Whitty was bowling with one man on the on-side. At 222, when 21 runs had been added to Saturday's score Sims was smartlv caught at the wickets off Whitty. 222—5—11. MacFarlane followed, and the score was unaltered. Hopkins then bowled Midlane. 222—6 —47. Olliff joined MacFarlane, who hit Whitty to leg for four, the ball failing to reach the boundary. Olliff was cleaned bowled by Hopkins. 228 —7—2. Bennett partnered MacFarlane. Two fours to MacFarlane off Whitty roused enthusiasm, but Hopkins bowled Bennett. 236 —B—o.8 —0. For an hour's play 35 runs were recorded. Boxshall was" next, and five were added when MacFarlane was easily caught by Warne in the slips off Whitty. 242—9 — 16. The Otago batsman hit four fours. Howden was the last man. Two fours bv Boxshall off Hopkins caused 250 to appear. Boxshall livened the play, but was stumped off Gorry's pads. 258—10 — 17. Tho innings closed at 12.50, leaving the visitors 108 to make. Tho Australian innings began at 1.5 p.in. Maync and Bardsley went to the wickets. Olliff opening to the former and Reese bowled at the railway end. May no lifted the fourth ball of the over to the boundary for six. Siedeberg had a chance of running Bardsley out, but misfielded. Fifteen minutes produced 22 runs. Mayne having hit hard for nineteen. Mayne pasted Reese, getting three fours in one over. At 35. of which Mayne contributed 32, Bennett replaced Olliff and Howden took Reese's place. Both got a better length than the opening bowlers. At the luncheon adjournment the score was 48 (Mayne 39, Bardsiey 6, extras 3).
