RAUMAI.

The usual monthly meeting of the School Committee was hold on luestlay evening. March 8. There were present: Messrs F. Matthews (chairman), T. Ilall, R. Hall and D. C. McCarthy. The report of the teacher, Mr G. D. Smith, for the past month stated that the number of children on the roll was 32, average attendance 29. Corresopndence was received from Wanganui Education Board wishing to introduce in the school_ fij»t aid in connection with Arnold s simple chart, the matter being deferred for consideration. From secretary of Aramoho School Committees' Association requesting the Committee to send a delegate to attend the conference to be held on the 17th inst.; no action was taken. From Wanganui Board drawing attention to reduction of Government subsidy, also from the Board drawing attention to flag and ensign. It was unanimously decided to close the school on the 17th inst. in connection with our annual sports. For some time past there has been a practice of pilfering carried on in the school gardens, and in consequence a vigilant eye has been kept to secure the offenders. On the morning of the 15th of February last thr.eo youths wore found to be intruding in the gardens and had helped themselves to a considerable quantity of vegetables, and tho committee decided to take action. Oho of the culprits appeared in person at the School Committee meeting and apologised for the offence, and he was let of? with a caution. The other two have yet to give an account of themselves, or otherwise prosecutions arc likely to follow. It is to bo hoped this may act as a caution to others. Since the date mentioned a quantity of the vegetables has been removed. The Committee arc to be complimented on their vigilance. It is discouraging to the master and children that their labours should be spoilt in such a manner.
