Accidents and Fatalities.

WELLINGTON, July 23. A serious accident occurred in Manners - street about 3 o'clock this afternoon. Mrs Spring, whose husband is a French polisher employed in the city, was crossing the street, when she noticed that a tramcar going towards Willis-street was almost upon her. She made an effort to get off the line, but was caught by the apron and thrown on to the other line almost under the wheels of another car, which was coming from Thorndon. This car brought up almost instantly, but too late to avoid inflicting serious injuries on Mrs Spring Her left leg was fractured, her. head and body cut, and her system also received a severe shock. She was removed to the hospital.

WANGANUI, July 23. Arthur Mathieson, secretary -of the Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club and a well-known commission agent at Waverley, was accidentally shot at Whenuakura this morning. He was getting through a fence when his gun went off.

A body in a decomposed state, supposed to be that of Harry Skeet, fireman, on the Moura, drowned on the Bth of last month, was found in the Buller river to-day.

News comes from Karamea that the body of Capt. Steversen, master of the scow Kangi, who lost his life in the accident that occurred last week while survey soundings were being taken on the bar, was found two miles north of the Karamea to-day.
