Reckless Driving.
(To the Editor}. Sir,—With your usual thought lor pedestrians, equestrians and others, I ask if there is any law to prevent the reckless driving of horses in the public streets -within the bordbgh - of' Falmerston North. This dangerous practice has been brought before the public frequently by yourself and your contemporary, but neither the police (they never appear to have time to attend to these matters) nor the Borough Council take action to prevent, this nuisance. On turning the corner of Grey-street yesterday morning about half-past seven a batch of horses, numbering I should say between 80 and 40, were despatched from a paddock furiously making their way towards - Bangitikei-street. As I was cycling towards them, naturally, I gave them a wide berth, when in the general rush one of the mob rushed across the road, just missing my bars by a few inches, saluting as he passed by with a kick which went as close to me as it could without catching me. Really, sir, is it not time that such aj breach of the law (if any) was put a stop to.—lam, etc., W. B. Hells, Palmerston N„ April 4th, ' [Ndw by-laws with regard to driving" [■ horses, -tbioxighthe " town; came into; " force" yesteirday, one of the regulations 7 providing that in future working horses must be led and not driven. Our correspondent is correct in asserting that horses have been driven recklessly through the streets. Now that By-laws are in force an example should be made of offenders. —Ed. M.B.S.j
