(From Our Own Correspondent.) The rainfall for last month as- regis tered at the Lower Gorge Ferry is as under:—Total, l'ol.- Greatest fall 01 the 23rd with *48. Four of the local bodies cited get off free, and they must be hugging themselves with sheer delight, that is if surprise has not deadened their sense of humour. The ConimissionerY remarks in connection with the Hokowliitn Bridge ;are so tempered by his merciful action letting the I'alwerston Borough and Kairanga County off so lighten Gorge Bridge matters, that a deputation was in Wellington on Monday inten it wing the Minister re the erection of the Hokowhitu Bridge. After the \ery merciful treatment of the Gorge Bridge Commissioner, who can blanae the deputation if they come to the conclusion that they have only, to ask and a bridge will be slungafcthem.
