At the XLasterton races the racehorses Kudu, Moemfn, and Waikakaho were submitted to auction. Waikakaho was the'only one disposed of, being knocked down, io Mr A, .Mitchell, of Ot«ki f for -Ognu, Kudu was passed in at rOgns, and Murrain at 20gns. Mr Stead iosfc a particularly promising two-year-old filly nt Yalclhurst on Saturday morning m Cream Jug. She was by Royal Artillery from the im- I parted mare Saucer, and had improved since the midsummer beyond all expectations. Hewitt was riding her in a fast gallop, and when leading Edna May a couple of lengths she suddenly stopped. It was found that her off hmd leg. was broken. .Apparently she struck it, when rounding the turn at the half-mile post. Mr Stead was on the ground, and immediately gave instruction? .to .have the fil.lv shot/'
A committee meeting of the North Island Horse-owners' Association will be held at the Club Hotel at 7 o'clock to-morrow night for tile purpoieof considering rules ot the Association. Mr C. M.cMastcr, secretary to the Association, was in town to-day engaged in furthering the objects and aims of the Association, which now numbers 120 members. He expects to add a number of local owners to the list..
Mr and Mrs Handley, of Auckland, i arrived in town to-day to attend the | Manawatu meeting. Mr Hand ley is the owner ctf Soultraatd, one of Soult's speedy daughters; i He is also a member of the committee of the North Island Horse Owners' Association. When afc home, Mr Handley takes a keen interest in municipal matters, and is a prominent figure therein. Maui will hot be a starter in the Champion Hack Plate to-morrow, some doubt having arisen among his connections as to whether he was eligible, arid consequently the Mahaki gelding was left at home. It is now stated, however, that there was nothing as far as stakes recently won were concerned to prevent Maui starting, he having been a hack at the time of nominations. J. Seeats, rider of Landlock, was disqualified for six months at Avondale on Saturday after the race for the Avondale Handicap won by Gladstone. The following horses are omitted from the Avondale acceptances, published on page o:—Nursery: Paroquet. Steeplechase : Xaipaki.
