Manawatu Meeting.
Tc-morrow's Bacinsr
[By " Geeaixt."]
To-morrow the Manawatu Racing Club will inaugurate its autumn meeting under conditions that at present promise a success equal to if not in excess of the big record put up last year, wJien the sport provided and the keen interest taken generally in the proceedings exceeded the expectations of the most sanguine. Sport to-morrow should be of the keenest. The principal attraction will be the Second Manawaiu Stakes, in which the presence of the big gun Achilles, who had to strike his colors to Machine Gun last year, has not frightened twelve other final acceptors from the big classic erent. Though there appears little doubt that the chestnut son of Medallion and \Nereia will prevail on the present occasion, the presence of King Billy, Glenowlet, Zimmerman, Loftus, Petticoat, a daughter of Multiform, and Snovvstell wiii add materially to the interest centred in the race, since experience has shown that the best of good things go down occasionally. The classic hack event, the Champion Hack Plate, has also filled remarkably well and promises to be one of the best events on the card. Picking does noi appear quite so easy in this event and popular fancy .favours the chances of Lady Wayward, Maui, Contender, Sylvan Tide, Mobility and Ellertoj, rather a big list but one indicating a decidedly open race. The remaining events liave all filled well and, as stated before, should produce keen and interesting stiaggles ior supremacy. The following may run prominently m their respective engagements:— Telegraph States Sir Tristram, Stronghold.
Xarerc Hack Welter — Prospector, Windy. ' Longburn Handicap—Gold Crown, Lyrist. Linton Hurdles—Apiti, Hydrant, iiokowhitu Hurdles — Dalkey, St. Lyra. Taikorea Welter—Chryseis, Barca. Champion Hack Plate—Contender, Sylvan Tide.
Manawatu Stakes-—Ac Hi lies, Glenow - let.
