Sensational Mail Robbery

SYDNEY, August 22. A sensational robbery took place on :he Western mail train.
On the arrival of the train at Eedfern this morning it was discovered that nine ordinary mail bags from stations on the Cowra-Blayney branch line had been cut open; and registered bags extracted. The bags had afterwards been replaced with the ordinaries.
Evidently the thief had been in a hurry and had overlooked a few registered letters.
. There is complete mystery as to when and how the theft was committed. So far as known the bags were intact when transferred fromßlayney to the Western mail. No mail van was attached and consequently no postal official was in charge.
Beyond seeing them placed on board in the usual way, the railway officials took no further notice of the bags and they were not aware of the robbery until they reached Sydney. It is believed the amount niissing does not exceed
