Assault While Temporary Insane.

DUNEDIN, August 22. At the Supreme Court to-day Allan Garth McGregor was charged with an attempt to murder William Ernest Sai-good, of Sargood, Son and Ewen. IS To evidence was called' for tlie defence which was conducted by Messrs W. C. MacGregor and Hanlon.
Counsel contended that jthe accused had gone to the house to give up the fcrys of the factory, and putting his hand in his pocket unfortunately drew out the revolver. He asked the jury to acquit accused of the more serious charge.
After fifty minutes' retirement", the jury returned with a verdict that the accused shot Sargood while temporarily insane.
In reply to the Judge, the foreman said that they could not got away from the fact that the accused shot Sargood, but at the same time they were unanimous that he was not in his right mind at the time.
His Honor made an order that the accused should be kept in strict custody in gaol at Dunedin till the Colonial Secretary's plea ure was known
