FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY.
The Management Committee .of the Manawatu Rugby Union met last night to make arrangements for the opening of tho season. It was decided to hold the first championship matches on Saturday li'ay 9 th. **
Applications for affiliation to the Union were accepted from the Iwiroa Club (Longburn), senior and junior ; and the Feilding Club junior. '
Drawings for next Saturday's championship games resulted "as follows :—
Senior—Terrace End v. Institute, No. 2 pitch on Showground, Mr lfitchell referee ; Palmerston w College-street Old Boys, No. 1 pitch, Showground, Mr J. Manning referee ; Iwiroa, a bye. Junior—Rongotea v. Awahuri, at Awahuri, Mr Warden referee ; Huia v. Kia Toa, Showground, Rev. Harper referee ; Iwiroa v. High School, at Longburn, Mr E. Nash referee * Feilding Juniors, a bye.
Mr G. VV. Mitchell was appointed to the Selection Committee, in lieu of the Rev. C. C. Harper, resigned. It was decided to send the representative team on tour after the lirst round of the championship matches has been played. The Wairarapa Union enquired the probable date of the visit of tho Manawatu rep. team. It was decided to reply that the elate would be about the third week in June.
Mi* Broom stated he intended to donate a carved shield of Now Zealand wood for the Junior Championship. The offer was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to provide the silver mountings for the shield.
College-street School Old Boys' Club will hold an important meeting on Thursday evening at Woodlicld's stables. Tho meeting luu. been postponed from to-night owing to the Institute Club social. The gyni. practice to have been hold to-night is also postponed for the same reason.
