Prohibition in Ashburton.
Club and Beireslnnent Licenses Cancelled.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, Tuesday. Sir Joseph Ward arrived from the north to-night. As Colonial-Sefretary Sir Joseph has forwarded the following communication to the manager of the Ashburton Club : "I desire to inform you that the Government has decided to revoke tho charter ot the Ashburton Club. This of course ha«i special application to the power tbe charter gives for the sale of alcoholic liquors. Tho club license to sell will be cancelled as and from the date of expiry of the hotel licenses, which tho carrying of prohibition in the district entails. The license for the sale of liquor at the Railway Refreshment Rooms will also terminate at the expiry of the existing contract."
