LAND AT LONGBURN.
Local roidpiiis -"will- Lo pleased, to notice that the Wellington School Commissioners have decided to cut up the 120 acres of rich laiid they possess nest the Longburn School into small sections for the purposes or closer settlement. The land will be offered at auction on the terms laid down in the Act,"viz., leases of 21 years, with right of renewal for a similar term, with compensation for improvements. There is a considerable quantity of good land in the locality, but the opportunity of acquiring small holdings with which a. working-man can add to the income he may be .able to earn in his regular occupation. Then, especially at Longburn, there are instances where men are engaged in intcrmitlent work which erases at the end of a. season, where the possession of a small farm would enable them to keep their families in comfort'and make some provision for their old age. Of course the number of sections to be offered is limited, but a commencement at any rate will be thus made, and it is to be hoped that the experiment will be attended with success.
