FAR REACHING LEGISLATION.

fiiE- Land Titles Protection Bill, which passed through its second stage in the House or ■ Representatives on day night, is one of the most far-reach-ing measures which it has ever been proposed to place on our statute book. Under this Bill it is proposed h bar the commencement of any action to question the titles of land which may have been acquired from the natives more than ten years ago, unlois the consent of the Government has first been obtained to such action. It is stated that unlesVth* measure is passed the title to over a million and a. half acres of land in the North Island would be at stake. Such lands comprise towns or townships, sheep runs and dairy farms, of a value of. many millions of pounds, all oi which are held under Crown grants or Land Transfer titles. The matter was very carefully considered during its passage through the House, the debate being particularly marked by the fair manner in which it was conducted, and we'can 'nly hope) hat no misconception will arise in the fttjtt£ as to the scope and truaa tention of the measure.
