Auckland, January 3. Tho New Zealand Insurance Company's balance-sheet for the year ended the 30th JSovember. 1901, is published. The nett revenue was £361,0-15, the highest on record. The credit on tho year's transactions, including the balance brought forward from the previous year, was £77,J09. Tho available balance after paying an interim dividend, in July last, is £07,400, which the directors recommend should be appropriated as follows :—Reserves and re-insurance funds ; investment fluctuation account, £10,000; dividend and bonus for_ the half-year at 3s lid por share, .£17,522; carried forward to new account, £19,909.
Nat-iei!, January (5. A dwelling in Oiiuihn road, Hastings, owned by Mr Vaughan and oecupied'by Mr Spence, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. Insurances are, dwelling £150 in the New Zealand, and furniture MO in tho South British.
Wellington, January (!. The collier Radloy, which is taking -1000 tons of coal to the China Station, arrived from Weslport this morning to ship <a portion of her lading here. Mr Aitken, Mayor of Wellington, declines to accept another term of office. Several other candidates are likely to contest tho seat.
Hokitika, January 6. Splendid weather Ims been experienced for the holidays which have passed oil: most successfully everywhere along the coast. All out-door functions proved unusually successful, a record gathering being made at all points. The Premier and party left for the north late on Saturday night. Mr "beddo" is expecting to relorn early next month to turn the first sod of llje railway to Ross and lay the foundation stone of. Wcstland's war memorial. Tho latter function will bo carried out with a Masonic ceremony. The inuinorial will cost about MOO.
The annual New Zealand Fireßrigades Association Conference will be held here ab.out the second Monday in March.
