PROBABLE COMPOSITION OF THE NEW MINISTRY.
(Monday's Post.) Nothing official has yet transpired with regard to the formation of the new Ministry, and unfortunately Mr Stout, who has consented to join it, was compelled to leave this afternoon for Dunedin on urgent private business ansiiia; out of tlic'sdKousUlness *' of =hi«. partner. On Saturday Sir Julius Yogel had 'interviews with Mr Montgomery and Mr Macandrew;'arftt--it was understood that they were to give a reply as to whether they would accept seats or not, by noon to-day. This. morning|Mr Stout, ;.Mr Macan- «r I dre^ind^Mr Barron^ wait&^on Sij I George Grey to ascertain whether ijiere was any prospect of his adhesion, Ijiit speedily found that there was not. On the contrary, Sir George expressed Himself with great bitterness regarding the intrusion of Sir Julius Yogel, as he s,eerued to consider it, and as to the conduct of ; Mr^ Stqulii an! others iv supporting the member for Christchurch North. The result of the interview was very unsatisfactory. I .As might be expected from all his | past conduct, Sir George Grey has since placed himselt m communication with Major. Atkinson. For years past he.h>B. ; kcp^ that .gentlemaii injopfce|: j and, we doubt not, is prepared to try and keep him there still rather than let anyone but himself succeed to power. Prior to Mr Stout's^de^iriure this afternoon, it was understood that .Messrs Ballance, Montgomery, and Macandrew had definitely accepted seats m the new Cabinet, the portfolios m which will probably be allotted as follows : — Premier and Attorney -General, Mr Stout; Treas urer, Sir : Julius Vogelj Minister of Public Works, Mr Montgomery Colonial Secretary, .-Mr Maoudrew Postmaster-General, Mr Ballanc*. Sir George Whitmore will probably represent the Government m the Legislative Councifwfthout portfolio. The vacant seat will shortfy be filled by an Auckland member.
