Rising of Convicts.
i A Plymouth telegram of June 30fch states :—^Wiiile a gang of twenty-five convicts were at work here, one of their number threw a large stone at the solitary Warden, which struck him on tliVliead, inflicting astunning blow. The entire gan<» then rushed for him., A life convict named Stevens outstripped the others and seized -the ; Warden's rifle and ammunition and i \ fired upon the advancing convipts, six i of whom he seriously wounded, when ■ his am munition -was exhausted. Stevens clubbed live others with his rifle> and when assistance arrivod he was completely exhausted. Details of the ufFair were promptly reported i; to the Government, and the Homo ' Secretary gavo onlera that Stevens be ;; immediately released from prison and ; rewanled. When the good news was ij made known to Stevens ho fainted. : .
