THE LAND BOARD.

FROM OUE CORRESPONDENT (BY TELEGRAPH.) DUNEDIN, April 26. The Land Board meeting yesterday was a very interesting one, as the applicants freely rumored to bo dummies came before the Board to apply," for the issue of their licenses. There were threeapplicants —Elliott, M'Caw and Fisher. Of the two last, one was a rabbiter, and the other a laborer. Elliott used to be a farmer at Waihola. The Board put them through a cross-examination, and held over its decision for a week. The two who applied last week (Popliam and Nichol) were granted their licenses. A telegram was read from the UnderSecretary of Lands, stating that Mr Kolleston fully approvo'cl the Boards action in the matter of tho alleged dummyism. A letter was also read from Mr Gellibrand, Tasmania, stating that he had recommended the Messrs Youngs from' that Colony to settle in New Zealand, as ho considered they were just the kind of frugal, industrious farmers required by the (xoreraffieat of New Z'ealaml'. A memo was read from Mr Ei IT, Johnstone, drawing; attention to. the. time that is being lost in. dealing with the lands jin Sutton ,and Strath-Taieri,,under the Rabbit Nusiince Act, in consequence of the. purchasers not being in occupation of their .respective blocks, through the withholding of licenses, and asking the Board to take the matter into their serious consideration.

The following ordinary business was transacted: —The District Land Officer, Naseby, transmitted license of W. Hadfield, section 8, block IV., Gimmerdistrict, recommending that it be cancelled, the selector having taken no notice, of the license being ready, and having done nothing to the land.—License cancelled.

The District Land Officer, Naseby, returned the following deferred-payment licenses, stating, that, the following selectors had beeii informed their licenses were ready, but that they had not put in an appearance : —George Stuart, section 5, block IV, G-im'merburn j George Adam, section 15, block IV, Maerewhenua; Robert Simpson, section 19, block X, Maerevrhenua; Thos. Haley, section 4, block XI., Maerewhenua. —lt was resolved that the selectors be informed that if the licenses are not taken up within one month they will be forfeited. The following applications for capitalisation were authorised: Thomas Flannery, section 2, block X, Poolburn ; P. M'Donald," section 6, block X, Poolburn ; J. Ramsay, section 27, block VII, Rock and Pillar. The Chief Commissioner requested the Board to fix the capital value of sections 12 and 13, blk. XIII, and_ section 14, blk XVI, Matiiototo district, and suggested 50s per acre for the first-named sections, and 35s for section 14.—The capital values suggested were approved.
